Current Connection 3.2

I received the information for this current connection from the article "Men in Nursing".
Fighting against stereotypes can be a very difficult thing to do. So difficult that because of it, it has started to "affect the mindset and the efficacy of male nurses". Beyond fighting against stereotypes and society sometimes people even have to go against their family just to do what they want. It talks about one situation in the article where "a male named Luke that had to face his family's disappointment that he wasn't going the MD route" but Luke still went through with it even with his family against him and became "the best L & D nurse one could want".
I've seen someone close to me go through this same thing, my neighbor and close family friend, Justin. His parents wanted with all their hearts for him to become a doctor but it just wasn't what he wanted to do. So they stopped paying for his college. Still, he went through and took out a few student loans and made it through and now is the male nurse he always wanted to be.
Familys need to support each other through everything, even on things they don't agree on. I'm sure now that Luke and Justin both went through with and finished what they wanted to do, their parents probably wish they would have helped. So they could say that they were apart of what their children accomplished.

Current Connection 3.1

I got the information used in this current connection from the article  Male nurses defy stereotypes. Where it talks about male nurses and the different stereotypes they have to deal with.
Many people believe that being a nurse is a woman job, saying " men can’t practice as nurses in women’s care settings, such as obstetrics or gynecology". Fraser, a man that has now become a nurse, says that he often " receives a lot of second glances when people hear that he’s a nurse. Many people also ask him if he intends to go to medical school." Then goes on to say that "He uses this as an opportunity to change the misconceptions of people who think nursing is a strange career choice for a man."
I can connect with Fraser very well because I too want to become a male nurse like him. Stereotypes can be very hurtful and I believe that to say it is a strange job for a male is sexist and untrue. I intend to fight through the stereotypes, like Fraser, and become a male nurse. Or even better, just maybe the stereotypes will be laid to rest by the time it is my turn to become a male nurse.
Stereotypes can be a very demoralizing thing, which is very true about the male nursing industry. If we fight stereotypes together and become what we want regardless, then they will be very easily and swiftly laid to rest.

                                                                              Biceps!!!

Many people believe that once you are fat and out of shape, it is nearly impossible to become an athletic or muscular person. I was one of thoughs people that believed that until I ran into an article talking about a man who was once over weight and was made fun of then decided to turn his life around and now has "31-inch biceps" Ismail of Massachusetts is one of the few people who not just prove these people wrong, but blow their theories out of the water. Moustafa decided to turn his life around when "a guest at his uncle's wedding mocked his overweight frame in his native Egypt." when people make fun of a persons weight or size it often encourages them too work hard and become fit. This situation comes up everyday for fat people, but it takes alot of hard work to get where this man got to.
When thinking about these series of events Moustafa was involved in it made me recall a similar situation I was in. I relate very well with this man because when i was younger i was often made fun of for my weight because i was a chubby little lad. I soon realized that, like Moustafa, the only way for me to stop being made fun of was too start working out and get huge biceps. Thats exactly what I did. People that believe once your fat, your stuck that way, are just ignorant. There are many people out there that, like me and Moustafa, overcame their obesity, got huge biceps, and were no longer made fun of.

                                                                           Support

Although the Luisville basketball team did a wonderful job by themselves, a big reason why they made it to the finals is the fact that Kevin Ware gave them moral support even after he completely broke his leg and could no longer play. "Ware supported his team throughout his injury and they will support him as he cuts down the net if they win tomorrow night." Ware showed trimindus leadership and support by doing this even though he had a terribly broken leg in my opinion. Kevin knew that even though he couldn't support his team on the court he could support them emotionally from the sidelines, and did just that.

I can relate very well with this, when I was in the fourth grade I went through a similar situation with my debate team. I was the smartest kid on the team until one sad day, I got diabetes. It effected my brain in a way that I lost over half of my brain cells. Although I knew I could no longer be apart of the team, I still went all the way to nationals with them and supported them mentally and emotionally. I believe it was what gave them that extra drive to pull through the win. In my mind my support that I gave them was the best I could do and turned out to be enough. Just like Kevin Ware.

                                                                      Punches

A big issue that we have have in today's society is women getting beat by their boyfriend, father, or any other close male in their lives. A lot of people are ignorant on this subject and need to be informed. After people are informed, then comes the question should you forgive the man that was beating you? In my opinion I think yes. An example of this would be when Chris Brown beat Rihanna for throwing his Lamborghini keys off the side of the road on the eve of the Grammy in 2009. This was a terrible thing to do and almost unforgivable. If i was Rihanna i don't think i could have forgiven Chris. Despite how hard it probably was Rihanna forgave Chris Brown and Chris Brown broke up with his girlfriend saying "I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna". This is a very noble thing to do, to give up his love to make up for what he did to Rihanna. I can relate to this very well because as a young child, I was beaten by my sister, Meagan, with a baseball bat.
This was a rude thing to do and I did not appreciate it. Although I hated what she did to me, I decided to forgive her for what she did and love her again. Many people all over the world are faced with this decision I was faced with and decide not to forgive them. Awareness about this needs to be spread then eventually these women will not need to make these choices because they will not happen. This has become a very big problem and it needs to get solved. The solution is easy, spread awareness. It just needs to be done to stop women from being beat. http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/04/showbiz/chris-brown-rihanna/index.html?hpt=en_c1

                                   Looters!

The thinking behind todays messed up world is "I need to to get that".
People want the biggest, coolest, most exspenisive and nicest thing you can get and they will do almost anything they need to do to get it. Whenever a store has a big sale, people die all the time because people are so selfish that they have ran right through people just to be the first one in line to get something that they want. It just shows what our society has come to when we dont care if we are killing a person just because we want to get the first iphone or labtop, and what are people thinking when its ok to steel just because its easy to access and no one will do anything about it. Its terrible when these looters break in and take all of these things just because the hurricane has caused the owner to leave town. There will already be tons of amounts in damage cost before the cost that they will now have to pay because of all of the stolen items they have lost.
